Here is our comparison review between Dell Latitude 5490 and Surface Pro 7.
Dell has released the Latitude 5490, a 14-inch machine, in early-2018. It is powered by up to a quad-core Intel Core i7-8650U with a boost clock speed up to 4.20 GHz. The laptop has a dedicated GPU option up to Nvidia GeForce MX130 with 2GB GDDR5.
On the other hand, we have the 12.3-inch Surface Pro 7 was introduced by Microsoft about a year later in late-2019. It comes with up to a quad-core Intel Core i7-1065G7 with a boost clock speed up to 3.90 GHz. It has an integrated graphics option up to Intel® Iris® Plus Graphics (64 Execution Units, 300 → 1100 MHz).
The Dell Latitude 5490 has a 14-inch display which is slightly larger than the 12.3-inch Surface Pro 7. In addition, the Dell Latitude 5490 weighs 3.52 lbs. about 107% heavier than the 1.70 lbs. Surface Pro 7. Moreover, measured at 13.1” x 9.0” x 0.8”, the Dell Latitude 5490 is much bulkier than the Surface Pro 7 at 11.5” x 7.9” x 0.33”.
There are a toal number of 13 ports and slots available on Dell Latitude 5490. That includes a USB-C port, three USB-A ports, a full-size SD card slot, a Smart Card Reader, a VGA port, a headphone jack, a lock slot, an HDMI port, an RJ-45 port, a microSIM card slot, and a power port. With that said, it has eight ports and slots more than the Surface Pro 7 that has two USB-A ports, a Thunderbolt 4 port, an HDMI port, and a microSD card slot.
Moving over to upgradability, Dell claims that the Dell Latitude 5490 supports up to 32GB 2400 MHz DDR4 memory that you can upgrade with two memory module slots on the motherboard. It also comes with a single removable M.2 SSD slot that users can replace and upgrade in the future. On top of that, it also has a single SATA slot that users can use to install a 2.5-inch SATA SSD, SSHD, or a hard disk drive to add even more storage.
For Surface Pro 7, it supports up to 16GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4X memory. Unlike Dell Latitude 5490, it has an onboard memory module that is not upgradable by the users. Furthermore, it also has an integrated storage module and has no M.2 slots for replacement.
For Surface Pro 7, there are also some outstanding new features that we want to point out as well including:
- Better performance It’s now 2.3x times faster than Surface Pro 6.
- Now with USB-C It allows you to charge, transfer data, and output up to two [email protected] displays.
- Better specs 10th Gen Intel Ice Lake processors, Intel Iris Plus G1-G7 graphics, 3733 MHz LPDDR4x, WiFi-6, Bluetooth 5.
- More Fast Charging and Dual far-field studio mics
